Overall vehicle appeal among US consumers has reached an all-time high, with the industry average increasing to 781 on a 1,000-point scale (up from 778 in 2010), according to the J.D. Power and Associates U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. Furthermore, recently launched all-new and redesigned models are substantially more appealing than their carryover counterparts, with a 29-point gap in 2011, compared with 18 points in 2010 and 10 points in 2009.
